Surrey Christmas Bureau

About

The Surrey Christmas Bureau (SCB) is the largest and busiest Christmas Bureau in British Columbia, serving over 1,800 Surrey families and 4,000 children in 2008. For 39 years, the SCB has been helping low-income families, and children under the age of 15, celebrate Christmas through Christmas Hamper and Adopt-A-Family programs. In addition to our regular hamper and gifting program, the Special Needs Gifting program provides gifts for over 250 special needs children. As Surrey continues to grow, and as the economy's instability lingers, there is an even greater need for the services we provide.

The SCB is a volunteer-based, non-profit, registered charitable organization that relies mainly on donations from local residents and businesses to sustain its programs. Ninety percent of all grants and donations go directly into services that benefit families in need.

Executive Director Bio

Executive Director, Kanchan “Konch” Bakshi has been volunteering and serving the community for over 15 years through various organizations including the Janta Sewak Society (JSS), a family run organization. JSS has raised over $900,000 for Children’s Hospital and other charities through community and media support. Her father, Sudarshan Bakshi, started JSS as a way to give back to the people and the country that gave him and his family so much. Kanchan has also been a volunteer with Surrey Crime Prevention for 9 years and has served the City of Surrey by being the extra “eyes and ears” for the Surrey RCMP.
